Home was always a place of contradictions for me growing up. What emotions weren’t expressed between my family and I usually manifested in other ways. For my mom and I, it was creating together. The vault of materials, books, and half-finished projects in our home is what encourages the connection we have through creating. Beginning as a way for me to relate to my childhood self, my practice started for me to make sense of the ways my identity and self perception has changed. Now, I am more interested in exploring vulnerability through creating, asking how I can find ways to feel and be more open. In my work, I utilize various craft processes and have found importance in collection and materiality. It became clear through my iterative process that this accumulation is a through-line in much of my work, and is necessary to understand the domestic themes, materials, and processes I use.
